Brussels: Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) urged an 'immediate' lifting of measures against Kosovo, according to a statement Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the MEPs emphasized that the current EU measures against Kosovo are unjustified since Kosovo has fulfilled the necessary EU requirements. They argue that these measures contradict Kosovo's commitment to European values and hinder the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in good faith.

The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, initiated in 2011 and facilitated by the EU, aims to normalize relations between Serbia and Kosovo following Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence, which Serbia does not recognize. Over the years, while some agreements have been reached, their implementation has often faced delays.

The MEPs urged both Kosovo and Serbia to adhere to the Brussels and Ohrid agreements and called for Serbia to lift its opposition to Kosovo's membership in regional and international organizations. They also advised the two countries to avoid unilateral actions that could disrupt the dialogue process.

In addition, the MEPs adopted a report on Kosovo's progress towards joining the EU in 2023 and 2024, highlighting Kosovo's consistent determination to integrate into the European Union. The report stresses that bringing Kosovo out of the 'grey zone' aligns with the interests of both Kosovo and the EU.

The MEPs expressed their full support for Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe, its intention to join the NATO Partnership for Peace program, and other international organizations.
