Cambridge: Harvard University lifted a shelter-in-place order after gunfire was reported at a nearby subway station. US authorities responded swiftly to the incident on Sunday, ensuring safety measures were in place for the university community.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Police (MBTA Transit Police) received a call at 2.12 p.m. local time (1812GMT) about a man firing several shots on the southbound platform of the Harvard Square T station. The suspect fled the scene, and investigators suspect the individual targeted someone, though no injuries were reported.

In response to the incident, Harvard University issued a campus alert advising students and staff to shelter in place while police conducted a search of the area. The alert emphasized the importance of remaining indoors until further notice to ensure everyone's safety.

The search involved collaboration between Cambridge, Harvard, and MBTA police forces, concluding approximately 20 minutes later. Following the search, the university released a second alert, lifting the shelter-in-place order.

As of Sunday evening, authorities had not made any arrests related to the incident.
