Iran’s New Supreme Leader Asserts Strength Against Assumptions

Tehran: Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated on Friday that the country's defense capabilities far exceed the expectations of its adversaries, whom he accused of underestimating Iran's internal fortitude.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khamenei conveyed this message in a written statement marking the beginning of the Persian New Year (Nowruz). He suggested that the ongoing conflict commenced after Iran's enemies lost hope in inciting a popular uprising within the country. Khamenei highlighted that these adversaries believed that assassinating key leaders and military personnel would instill fear and despair among the populace, potentially leading to the collapse of the political system.

Khamenei emphasized that, contrary to these expectations, Iranians have established what he described as a 'vast defense line' throughout the nation, thwarting such plans. He urged Iranian media to steer clear of emphasizing internal weaknesses, cautioning that hostile media operations aim to destabilize national unity.

In his message, Khamenei announced the slogan for the new Persian year as 'resistance economy under national unity and national security.' Additionally, he addressed recent attacks targeting Trkiye and Oman, denying any involvement by Iran or its allies. Instead, he accused Israel of attempting to create discord between Iran and its neighboring countries.

The regional tensions have heightened since the United States and Israel initiated a joint offensive against Iran on February 28, resulting in approximately 1,300 casualties, including the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, leading to casualties and infrastructure damage, as well as disruptions in global markets and aviation.
