China Nominates Doctor Song Li for Top WHO Position

Beijing:Doctor Song Li has been nominated by China for a key post in the World Health Organization (WHO), a move seen as a step toward fostering a global health community for all.

According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized the importance of multilateralism in the face of current global challenges. She stressed that the role of the Director-General is crucial for the steady progress of the WHO in an evolving global landscape.

Mao Ning expressed confidence that Doctor Song Li's election would enhance the WHO's capacity to promote health and wellbeing worldwide. She stated that Beijing's nomination reflects China's commitment to multilateralism and its support for the WHO.

Additionally, during the same news conference, Mao addressed the Human Rights Council's adoption of a China-proposed resolution. This resolution, titled "Promoting accessibility for the full enjoyment of all human rights by all," is considered significant for advancing global human rights. It encourages addressing population ageing and utilizing AI and emerging technologies for improving accessibility and governance standards.
