France Pledges Defensive Support for Saudi Energy Infrastructure Amid Tensions

Riyadh:France is prepared to assist in protecting Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure in a strictly defensive capacity, as stated by the French Foreign Ministry amid escalating regional security tensions.

According to Anadolu Agency, a ministry spokesperson conveyed France's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in response to recent attacks. France expressed readiness to help safeguard energy facilities, notably those in Yanbu and the East-West pipeline.

This announcement follows warnings from Yemen's Houthis that Saudi airspace could become a "theater of military operations." Saudi Arabia reported three fatalities in attacks on its airports, including one in Riyadh.

The French spokesperson firmly condemned the Houthi attacks and emphasized the need for them to cease, especially the recent incidents.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the ministry highlighted the international community's shared interest in restoring maritime traffic and upholding international law. France is involved in the EU's Aspides maritime security operation in the region, although specific French assets were not disclosed.

France has backed the Aspides mission since its inception in February 2024 and intends to continue its support, adapting as necessary to regional security developments.
