Ankara: A ballistic munition fired from Iran toward Turkish airspace was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean on Wednesday, the Turkish National Defense Ministry announced. The ministry shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the projectile, which traveled through Iraq and Syria, was successfully engaged by air defenses.
According to Anadolu Agency, the fragments that landed in the Dortyol district of southern Hatay province were from the interceptor used to neutralize the threat. The ministry assured that there were no casualties and emphasized, "Our determination and capacity to ensure the security of our country and our citizens are at the highest level."
The statement further highlighted Turkey's commitment to regional stability and peace, asserting its readiness to protect its territory and citizens against any threat, no matter its source. The ministry reiterated its stance that all necessary measures to defend Turkish land and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation.
"We reserve the right to respond to any hostile act directed at our country," the statement warned, urging all parties to refrain from actions that could escalate regional conflicts. Burhanettin Duran, Turkey's Communications Director, also confirmed on NSosyal that Ankara's resolve and capacity to protect the nation remain steadfast. "Every step to defend our land and airspace will be taken without hesitation," Duran stated.
