Hamas Urges Global Protests as Israeli Conflict in Gaza Nears 600 Days

Gaza City: The Palestinian resistance organization Hamas has issued a call for global demonstrations spanning three days to exert pressure on Israel to cease its ongoing conflict in Gaza, as the situation approaches its 600th day. The appeal for protests is set against the backdrop of a prolonged and deadly conflict that began on October 7, 2023, causing extensive loss of life and injury.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wednesday marks the 600th day since Israel's military operations commenced, resulting in the deaths of nearly 54,000 individuals, predominantly women and children, and injuring close to 123,000 others. Hamas, in its statement, outlined plans for worldwide protests from May 30 to June 1. These protests aim to denounce what Hamas describes as 'the crime of genocide and starvation of our people' and to express solidarity with Gaza, Jerusalem, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The group has called for intensified global actions in cities worldwide to challenge what it terms the aggression, genocide, and starvation occurring in the Gaza Strip. The humanitarian situation in Gaza has been exacerbated by Israel's closure of crossings to food, medical, and humanitarian aid since March 2, as reported by government, human rights, and international sources.

The conflict has drawn international legal scrutiny, with the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions against civilians in the enclave.
