Pyongyang: North Korea has temporarily banned foreigners from visiting its newly opened Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area, according to the country's national tourism authority. This decision comes just weeks after the resort began welcoming guests.

According to Anadolu Agency, the announcement was reported by NK News, a US-based outlet focused on North Korea, citing a communication from the country's National Tourism Administration. The Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area is located on North Korea's east coast along the East Sea. The sprawling resort features more than 400 uniquely designed buildings, water parks, sports facilities, and a variety of entertainment and dining venues.

The resort officially opened earlier this month and was promoted domestically as a signature project of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. State media described the launch as a 'gift' to the people, emphasizing the resort as an example of 'people-first politics' and a new model for the country's tourism sector. However, North Korea has not provided a reason for the sudden suspension of foreign visits or indicated how long the ban will remain in effect.
